BACKGROUND

The Institute of Public Security of Malaysia (IPSOM) is established by YB. Dato Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after he resumes his office as the Minister of Home Affairs Malaysia in 20th May 2013. The initial team of 12 officers have been grouped and appointed for IPSOMs establishment from various departments and agency under Ministry Of Home Affairs, such as Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysia Prison Department, National Anti Drug Agency, National Registration Department and divisions in the Ministry Of Home Affairs. The purpose of establishing IPSOM is to safeguard the security and prosperity of the people in Malaysia either in peace or threatened condition. IPSOMs primary function is to conduct empirical and scientific research on issues of public safety with the goal of helping the ministry to formulate the security policy that accurately and effectively beneficial to people in Malaysia and the region. It is deliberated to become a knowledge and skill centre in security while developing human capital in the sector by regenerating specialist in security.
